Dane Axe

Description

The famous dane axe was one of the early precursors of the halberds and other poleaxes. Widely used by the vikings in their raid and combat expeditions, this weapon was so effective in battle that it stayed in use in England even after the dane invasions, arming the housecarls of Scandinavians, Normans, and Anglo-saxon nobles alike. This long axe was the iconic weapon of these elite warriors, which were serving as bodyguards and retinues for the jarls, kings, and lords of Northen Europe. It was also used by the Varangian guards of the Byzantine Empire, which were recruited from these same nations.
